What is radical creativity? [An Abstract of the Inquiry]
Radical creativity is about becoming aware of -- and acting upon -- the freedom found within the imaginative mind. It's about the sense of autonomy in thought and the willingness to take risks in our thinking. It's about no longer feeling boxed-in by the institution, but rather feeling empowered by a community of other radical and creative thinkers.
Why? Overall, it's about fostering student engagement. Our students need to be prepared for an uncertain and unorthodox future. Radical creativity is the essence of that sentiment.
How? I synthesized a collection of articles and presentations on the subjects of autonomy, classroom community building, and creative and radical thinking. Overall, the synthesis of these progressive and contemporary ideas can inform my practice, and perhaps yours, too. The concept here is about inspiring students to take risks in their thinking -- as this is the foundation of creativity.
